Greenstar Announces Green Schools Sponsorship
Greenstar is proud to announce that it has recently agreed to
become the lead sponsor of the Green Schools programme. As lead
sponsor, Greenstar will provide support in kind for business
development purposes and cash support of €300,000 over
the next three years.
The Minister for Environment, Heritage and Local Government,
Mr. Dick Roche, TD formally unveiled the Green Schools programme
for 2005 in conjunction with the Greenstar sponsorship announcement
on Monday 6th December 2004 at St Cronan’s School in
Bray.

The Green Schools programme is an international project
designed to encourage and educate school children from the
ages of 4-18 to recognise the importance of environmental
issues in school, at home and in their personal lives. Green
Schools is run in co-operation with local authorities throughout
Ireland and is managed by An Taisce, the National Trust for
Ireland. The idea was developed by the Foundation for Environmental
Education (FEE). The programme is commonly known
in Europe as Eco-Schools.
There are currently over 2,452 schools (45%) both at primary
and secondary level involved and currently 886 schools have
successfully completed the programme and have been awarded
green flags. This programme has a high profile and publicity
is widespread both nationally and locally. Demand from the
remaining 2,178 schools to be apart of the Green Schools programme
is huge.
This sponsorship gives Greenstar a great opportunity to work
with the Green School’s team creating environmental
awareness amongst school children, while educating and creating
links with communities and businesses around the country.
This further enhances Greenstar’s commitment to promote
greater awareness to improve and protect our precious environment.
