Materials
Recovery Facilities. Waste is sorted, separated and segregated
in these facilities resulting in diversion of significant quantities
of waste from landfill.
For example, Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste is processed in our MRF’s in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Millenium Park, Co. Dublin and in Sarsfield Court, Cork. Typically 85% to 90% of this waste stream is recovered and diverted from landfill. The recovered materials consist mainly of soil, rubble, timber and steel and all of these materials are reused or recycled.
In our Sarsfield Court MRF a new line has been installed for the processing of Municipal Solid Waste. This waste stream has a significant quantity of organic (i.e., food) waste. In the Sarsfield Court MRF the waste is first shredded and then processed in a trommel, the latter removing most of the organic waste. The organic waste is then sent for composting at our facility in Milltown, Co. Tipperary. Through this process approximately 40% of the waste stream is diverted from landfill. |
