‘Greenstar is committed to the highest possible environmental and operational standards. The company has a duty both legally and morally to ensure that its operations are carried out with the minimum of negative environmental impacts. This is a duty Greenstar is determined to meet’.
Evidence of Greenstar commitment to achieving environmental
excellence is provided by ISO 14001:2004 certification awarded
to several Greenstar facilities, including our Materials Recovery Facility in Glamire, Co. Cork, the Greenogue recycling facility in Rathcoole, the Materials Recovery Facility in Millennium Park, Ballycoolin, Co. Dublin, the Materials Recovery Facility in Fassaroe, Bray, Co. Wicklow and Greenstar’s Landfill at Knockharley, Co. Meath.
Further evidence of our commitment is provided by the operation
of Ballynagran Landfill in County Wicklow. This site is operated in
line with a comprehensive Environmental Management System
which ensures compliance with strict standards.
As evidence
of these standards, in 2008, Ballynagran Landfill was awarded the UK CIWM PEEL’s People Cup for Best Operated Waste Facility in Ireland or the UK Ballynagran landfill is the first Irish waste facility in the twenty year history of the awards to win the prestigious PEEL's People Cup, which was open to waste facilities of all types throughout the two countries.
In 2009 Ballynagran Landfill won a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice. Now in their fifteenth year and established as one of the major environmental recognition schemes in the UK and internationally, the annual Green Apple Environment Awards recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.
